For the last 40+ years the Seven Years War Convention has offered gamers a cosy, intimate gathering for gaming, socializing, and enjoying fine spirits and intellectual discussion. It is well known as a convention traveled by professional game designers, historians, and enthusiasts alike. Featuring lectures and discussion panels by both renowned and up and coming historians – a tradition started by the late Dr. Christopher Duffy who attended the convention and provided an annual keynote presentation for multiple decades.
But while the name The Seven Years War Convention conveyed a very narrow historical focus, the reality of the offerings of the convention has consistently expanded – as the imagination of wargamers tends to do – first backwards into the War of Austrian Succession, then to the War of Spanish Succession, and even further into the Thirty Years War. Then forwards into the American Revolution and the French Revolutionary Wars … But while the convention offered a wide array of games dating back into the early 1600s and the wars of Gustavus Adolphus through the age of Marlborough and even forward beyond the influence of Frederick the Great and into the Napoleonic era, the name stayed the same.
